Elizabeth Hayes, writing in the Portland Business Journal, reports on a venture to create a Healthiest State Initiative, similar to the one now underway in Iowa:

Oregon ranks No. 24 on a national well-being index, and that’s something Nike Inc., Cambia Health Solutions and Oregon Health and Science University find unacceptable and are working to change.

It’s not unprecedented for a state to vault up in the rankings. Iowa used to occupy the No. 24 slot but it’s now No. 9.

And explains:

The three areas where efforts are being concentrated are quality of life, healthy eating and physical activity. Cambia is leading the charge in the first category, OHSU in the second and Nike in the third.

If the Healthiest State Initiative succeeds, more Oregonians will be exercising and improving their overall health.
