Organizational Principles

We have adopted a set of principles that shapes our organization’s approach to the work we do. The principles illuminate each other and work as a whole.

  1. Work to ensure that all people have an equal opportunity to develop their full physical, mental and spiritual potential. (equity)
  2. Work to resolve conflict creatively and cooperatively and strive to help our members learn to express disagreement without using any sort of demeaning actions or words. (civility)
  3. Freely and fully exchange information relevant to the purpose and principles unless doing so violates confidentiality or materially diminishes the viability of the organization. (transparency)
  4. The organization will:
    1. Be open to membership by any individual or organization who agrees to the mission and organizational principles of We Can Do Better. (inclusive)
    2. Have the right to self-organize at any time, on any scale, in any form, for any activity consistent with the mission and principles. (nimble)
    3. Conduct deliberations and make decisions using methods that reasonably represent all relevant and affected parties and are dominated by no one party. (shared power)
    4. Encourage not compel behavior, to the maximum degree possible.
