As a baby in London in WWII, had the Luftwaffe succeeded in bombing his home he would have had any injuries cared for under a National Health System - no questions asked. During his career in Media Services at various universities - both in England and the US, lastly at PSU - he continued to marvel at the complexity of the US health services.

After retiring, he took the opportunity of joining Archimedes as one of the first members of one of the first chapters - Eastside Portland.
