Oregon Progressive Physicians Meeting in Portland

Hello to all,

We are having a kickoff event this week for a new group of progressive physicians around Oregon, and would love to have any and all interested among you come. We will have Governor Kulongoski, as well as a number of other elected officials involved in health reform present, and it should be an amazing opportunity for thoughtful discussion. This event is being put on by the Democratic Party, in the interest of full disclosure, and they are very interested in helping us grow this into a full caucus of the party. There is a fee for attending, but it should be very worth it with the time with electeds, food and free wine involved.

The link for the event is: https://secure.dpo.org/dpo/opp

Please let me know if any questions,

Steve Sherick, MD

Why I intend to vote for Measure 50

Over the past few weeks I have been asked several times whether or not I am supporting Ballot Measure 50, which seeks to fund the Healthy Kids Plan. While each Archimedes Movement member in Oregon will need to decide how to vote on this issue, I am writing to clarify my own personal position.

Next Steps

I am writing to share my thoughts on the recently adjourned Oregon legislative session as it relates to the Archimedes Movement, and to discuss where we go from here.

Looking Forward

Now that the legislative session has adjourned I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your commitment and engagement over this past year and to try to put the session into perspective.

Senate leadership clears SB 27 to the Ways and Means

On Wednesday the Senate leadership cleared SB 27 to the Ways and Means. Since many members of the Human Services subcommittee are not available we anticipate that SB 27 will be assigned to the general government subcommittee. This could happen at any time.

Our Historic Opportunity for Health Reform

SB 27, the Oregon Better Health Act, has reached a critical point in its journey through the Oregon Legislature. Due to your hard work we believe that if the bill gets passed out of the Ways and Means Committee it has the votes to pass the Senate.

The Framework

First, I want to thank you for all the time and energy you spent over the past year in the development of what has become Senate Bill 27 - the Oregon Better Health Act. Although it is too early to predict the outcome of this legislative session, we are making progress.

Thanks for helping move SB 27 forward

Congratulations to the hundreds of people who contacted their legislators about a work session on SB 27 – the Oregon Better Health Act. The work session was held on Monday April 30 and the Senate Special Committee on Health Care Reform adopted our amendments and voted to send the bill on to the Ways and Means Committee.
