Yes, we can change the old way of thinking.
When you become a member, you invest in the growth of the Archimedes Movement, both in our stability and in our ability to be nimble when needed. Every dollar opens up opportunities to change this debate from being simply about health insurance; allows us to work in local communities, identifying and advancing local leaders who can engage others in the health reform debate; puts former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and his message in front of local, state and national leaders, leveraging encouraging policy-makers to understand and make the changes we need; and helps staff support all of these activities - arranging, coordinating and organizing. Your membership works to create a 'place at the table' for the Archimedes Movement.
Yes, we can reform our ineffective health care system and replace it with an effective new one. The Archimedes Movement was founded in 2006 by former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber MD with these ideas in mind. As a former emergency room physician, Governor Kitzhaber knows the challenges of the current health care delivery system and the political arena where this complex social issue must be addressed. As a former state senator and former two-term governor he knows how entrenched the political process has become. As the founder of the Archimedes Movement and recognized as a national expert and leader in health care policy, he speaks across our nation about the underlying causes of the health care crisis, and what it will take to address it. He carries a powerful message; one that resonates with people across political, economic, age, and other demographic strata.
"The responsibility to fix this system, to bring about the reforms we all know are necessary, does not belong to someone else, it belongs to us, to you and to me and to citizens in communities throughout this state and throughout this nation. This is something we can do, and it's something we must do." – John Kitzhaber, M.D.

We need to have organized communities who understand the problem we are facing. Then we'll be ready to demand change from policy makers and political decision makers. In order to drive fundamental change, we need everyday people to step up and learn to be extraordinary leaders in their own communities, networks and associations. Your membership helps us to accomplish that goal. – Liz Baxter, Archimedes Movement
Yes, we can do better. We may see ourselves at times as being small, but what we are doing – engaging each other in important discussions about what the future will hold in terms of health and health care - is mighty and powerful. We can't look to someone else to fix this for us; this is going to happen because we build the momentum for change until we cannot be ignored. If you believe the same thing, then become a member today. We need you and others like you to take a step towards becoming extraordinary leaders within your community. That first step is becoming a member of the Archimedes Movement.
"Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has." – Margaret Mead
