Corvallis: Health, Reform, and You

Health, Reform, and You

You are receiving this e-mail because you live in the Corvallis area and – at some time in the recent past – expressed an interest in We Can Do Better (formerly The Archimedes Movement.) You can learn more about us at WeCanDoBetter.org. We believe that well-informed, actively engaged citizens can bring about positive changes in our health care system.

Lecture and Discussion Series in Corvallis

A group of members in Corvallis has arranged for Liz Baxter, the current executive director of We Can Do Better and highly respected in the health and health care community, to share with us some of her experiences and insights. The first of a series of four sessions is planned for Wednesday, March 28, and will use a lecture/discussion-with-questions-and-answer format designed to help us understand how our health care system got to its present unsatisfactory state of functionality, and why it fails to meet our health care needs. Subsequent sessions will cover possible ways for the health care system to align more closely with our needs; and what kind of changes are currently taking place, both at the national and local levels.

We are very fortunate that Ms. Baxter is willing to come to Corvallis for these sessions. Her broad experience in health policy and health services research, Medicaid and Medicare, public engagement and most recently chairing the Board of Directors of the Oregon Health Insurance Exchange Corporation, make her a treasure trove of knowledge about current changes in our health care system. She is especially skilled at explaining complicated, convoluted information into language folks like me (who can’t understand doctor-speak) can understand.

We are also pleased that the Missions Committee of the First Presbyterian Church of Corvallis is co-sponsoring these sessions.

I hope you will be able to join us for this informative and inspiring series. No matter what your level of understanding of our health care system might be, there will be plenty for all of us to learn from Ms. Baxter. I encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors to join us on Wednesday evening, March 28, for a refreshing and understandable analysis of our current health care system. All sessions are free and open to the public, but I wanted to give you advance notice with this e-mail so you could plan ahead. Don’t forget to bring with you any questions you might have about health care reform, and I hope you will take time to meet Ms. Baxter personally after the meeting.
Future sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, June 27, and July 25.

I look forward to seeing you in Dennis Hall on Wednesday, March 28.

May you enjoy the best of health!
