The Health Promotion Department of Student Health Services is planning a Health Inequities Symposium, which will take place April 21-22, 2015, on the OSU campus. We hope to offer a variety of presentations, workshops, and round table discussions. The focus will be on health inequities in the United States, specifically the root causes of these inequities within marginalized populations in the United States and on our college campuses. The symposium will include a range of possible topics such as food insecurity, sexual health, disabilities, chronic diseases, access to affordable health services, and violence against marginalized populations.

The goal is to engage students, faculty, health professionals, and community members in dialogue to cultivate awareness on how social issues affect health and well-being, as well as to encourage action in the pursuit of equal justice for all. We are especially committed to focusing on aspects such as student health and academic success and retention, as well as factors that affect these topics, with a special emphasis on marginalized students.

With this symposium we hope to bring awareness to the OSU campus community and begin dialogue on how to create lasting partnerships for change.
